Weight shift refers to the principle whereby the weight of the human figure is shifted from one supporting leg to another. This principle of weight shift is recognized in art while depicting human figures in relaxed positions. It is used in paintings and sculptures. This principle is also known as ‘contrapposto’. Normally, the hips and legs are turned in a direction opposite to the chest and shoulders about the central axis.
