Banko is a style of Japanese clay and porcelain wares beginning in the 19th century. Banko ware was originally made of white clay and generally featured a simple structure and design. Today, banko ware is diverse in color and design. Most banko pieces share a signature mark: a small, decorative oval filled in by Japanese characters.
