Coronation Definition
A coronation is a formal ceremony held by monarchs or rulers for placing crown on the head of a new king or queen. Introduction of new monarchs through coronation gained historical importance and was sketched to classical antiquity. Many Egyptian records going back to 1290 BC exhibited different scenes of coronation. During 4th century, the coins were depicted with illustrations and pictures of crowned heads of monarchs. Rulers then began to depict their own portraits in coins wearing a crown. Coronation mementos were made since 1800s. Pictures of monarchs inscribed in pottery, glass, tin, silver, and paper objects were sold at many coronations. Portraits of monarchs who were not crowned are also common.
