Crystal Definition
The word crystal is derived from the Greek word ‘krustallos’ which means ice and rock salt. A crystal is a solid which is a three-dimensional combination of atoms and molecules which is naturally arranged and formed in regular and symmetrical shapes. The process of formation of crystals through crystal growth mechanism is called as crystallization or solidification. Crystals has wide varieties of uses in chemistry as well as in electronics as semi-conductors. Further, such natural form of crystals is believed to have healing powers as per indigenous and ethnic health science. Examples of crystals formed from nature are snowflakes, diamonds, limestone and table salt. Rock crystals like limestone, gypsum and halite are the most natural form of crystals formed from fluid precipitation and evaporation.
