Doorstops Definition
Doorstop is a heavy object that is used to keep door open and to prevent the door being blown shut. Doorstops were first seen in Europe towards late 17th century. They were widely manufactured in Europe towards early 19th century. Initially, doorstops appeared in the form of an improvised piece of furniture, a wedge of wood, or a stone from a garden. Later, doorstops appeared in different shapes and colors and were used as both functional and decorative item. Traditional doorstops were made of cast iron and were made in the shape of humans, animals, flowers, and other figures etc. Theme based doorstops were also produced. For example, Alice in Wonderland doorstops. The 20th century doorstops were three dimensional and more decorative items were collected during this period.
