Dotaku Definition
Dotaku are Japanese bells that were used in agricultural ceremonies. Historians believe that these bells were kept away from the daily life activities and were used in prayer recitals to get a good harvest. These bells were made of bronze and decorated. Animals and nature patterns were used to decorate the bell. Dotakus were traditionally found in the Kinai district and the banks of the Inland Sea. Dotaku were classified into four groups based on the handle that was attached to the bell. Dotaku were seen used as early as second century B.C.
