Drove is a carving tool. It is used for rough hewing of stones. Droves have a broad edge and are used to smoothen/flatten rough stone surfaces. Softer rocks such as limestone and marble are smoothened with the help of a drove. Droves are also used to dress stones. A rock surface dressed with this tool is sometimes referred to as a drove.
