Dye Or Dyestuff Definition
Dye is a coloring agent or a pigment that completely dissolves in water or any other liquid. We get natural dyes from both natural and artificial sources. A vast majority of dyes are obtained from different parts of plants. Roots, berries, bark, leaves, and wood of different plants are a good source of dyes. Animals and minerals are also other natural sources of dye. Dye is sometimes referred to as dyestuffs. Textile dyeing started from the Neolithic period. Commercially produced dyes are highly concentrated. Dyes were used in artistic paintings and textiles.
