Encaustic is related to ancient technique of Greek painting using molten beeswax mixed with pigments and resin. This medium is applied to surface, typically wood, into a constant layer and fixed with heat. This gives the painting a lustrous enamel look. At any time an encaustic painting can be revised and reworked. This is also known as "hot wax painting".
