Imari Definition

Imari is the name of a Japanese porcelain which were exported to Europe during 17th and 18th century. It is also called Arita-yaki in Japanese language.  Imari porcelains usually has floral designs and designs in geometrical shapes stylized with bamboo and bright colours. By 19th century Japanese Imari had designs with darker colours and less gold decorations. These porcelains were later copied by European countries while producing porcelains.
