Moriage refers to a raised decoration used in Japanese pottery. The raised decoration is formed by applying lines of slip on to the pottery surface. The slip is either applied by hand or poured into a mould and allowed to dry partially. The decoration is then attached to the pottery base. The pottery is then glazed over leaving relief. The relief can be seen and felt. Dragon ware is a popular moriage.
