Parquetry Definition

The term parquetry derives from the old French word ‘parchet’ literally meaning "a small enclosed space". The term Parquetry refers to a geometric mosaic of pieces of wood used for an ornamental effect. The wood pieces, usually of different kinds and colors, are inlaid in a geometric pattern or mosaic.  This is used to cover a floor or to decorate furniture mosaic work of wood used for floors, and wainscoting. It is commonly seen that Parquetry as veneer patterns are used on furniture and block patterns are used for flooring. Further, Parquetry is used for application on boxes or other decorative objects by cutting the geometric mosaics of wood into razor-thin veneers. These wooden objects are of antique value.
