Parting Agent Definition

The term Parting Agent refers to a substance used to prevent adhesion. The parting Agent may be liquid, paste or wax and can be applied to the inside surfaces of a mold to prevent the mold material from sticking. Parting Agent is also known as a Separator, Release agent, or Parting Compound. Few examples of parting agents are: silicone, dusting powders like talc, mica, etc., carnauba wax, soap, paraffin etc. The parting agent for casting plaster in a mold can be either thin clay slip, or soft liquid soap or petroleum jelly, or thin oil. The parting agent for clay to separate from a mold is powdered chalk or talc.
