The term Passage refers, in the context of art, to a detail in a painting or any other work of art. Passage may be a certain area of a painting or portion of an art work. Passage is usually used to direct discussion to a change from one color or tone to another, or to make use of a notable technique in a section of a picture, or to an area overpainted by someone other than the original painter.
