Pointing is a means by which carving is done mechanically. It is a form of reproducing a three dimensional image proportionally by doing the measurement with the help of a pointing machine. For this purpose, the machine is fixed around a sculpture to calculate the measurements across different points on the surface. This also helps in transferring the exact measurements from a two dimensional image to a three dimensional one.
