Punch Definition
The term Punch refers to a tool which is usually a hard metal rod and has a shaped tip at one end and a blunt end at the other. The blunt end is struck by hammer so that the other end gets into a hard surface like a wood or metal, or the shaped end is pressed by hand into a soft surface such as clay or wax. A punch may be used to cut a ring, or dot, or may be decorated with a leaf or any other designs. Decorative punches can be used to make a pattern or an image in even form. There are lettered and numbered punches available in a range of sizes and styles. The term punch is also referred to a broad, pointed metal tool used in stone carving.
