Purinton Pottery Company Definition
Purinton Pottery Company is a pottery company found by Bernard Purinton in 1936 and it was incorporated in Wellsville, Ohio. The company relocated to Shippenville, Pennsylvania, in 1941. At that time it made a variety of hand-painted ceramic wares. The company also opened a second plant in Tionesta, Pennsylvania. Purinton pottery made everything from piggy banks to dinnerware which included souvenirs, cookie jars, and florist wares. Purinton Pottery also made pieces for Napco and teapots for the McCormick Tea Company. Purinton Pottery Company is famous for its Howdy Doody cookie jar. Purinton Pottery closed in 1959.
