Synthetic Cubism Definition
Synthetic Cubism grew out of analytical cubism in the late phase of cubism. Unlike in analytical cubism, the image is built up in synthetic cubism. The artist in synthetic cubism makes use of extraneous objects like paper, cards and wrappers in his work. This technique is known as collage or papier colles. Increased use of color is another characteristic. Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque are considered as pioneers of synthetic cubism. Still Life with Chair-Caning by Picasso and Fruit Dish and Glass by Braque are renowned examples of synthetic cubism.
