Trident refers to the three prongs or three spears. In Hindu art it is one of the attributes of Lord Shiva and other god's within his circle. Shiva's trident is believed to represent the trinities - creator, protector and destroyer. In Greek mythology, it relates to Poseidon and in Roman mythology trident is attributed to Neptune.
