Triptych Definition
Triptych is derived from a Greek word meaning three-fold. It is an art work that has three panels with panel painting hinged together. These carved panels can be folded and per requirement, it can be opened and shut to view the painting. Usually, the middle panel has the largest panel, and the other two panels are relatively smaller in size. However, there are some triptychs that have equal-sized panels. The Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp, in Belgium, and and Notre Dame de Paris have examples triptych.
