Still-life paintings that portrays Trompe L'Oeil technique is referred as Trompe L'oeil. Though the technique was used much earlier, it was very popular in the 17th century. The Flemish painter Cornelis Norbertus Gysbrechts for his creation of chantourné painting showing an easel holding a painting and the Dutch painter Samuel Dirksz van Hoogstraten are renowned painters that used this painting technique.
