Batch Definition
The term Batch is used commonly in the glass making industry and refers to the raw materials mixture used to produce glass. These measured raw materials referred to as Batch is heated to form glass. Proper measurement of the Batch and correct mix of batch is required to achieve a desired glass formulation. A Batch is prepared by weighing fine-ground raw materials which include materials like formers, fluxes, stabilizers and at times colorants in required quantities and mixing these materials to get a homogenous composition. In the context of antiques, different Batches will be used for producing different types of glasses used for glassware or glass art.
