A bitmapped image is graphic or photograph stripped down to show the image in its simplest digital form: pixels on a grid. A bitmapped image will appear as a collection of small dots that roughly recreate a more detailed image. Artists might choose to bitmap an image with smaller or larger dots, the latter displaying less of the images original detail.
