Blacamoor Definition
Blackamoor in decorative art is a figural representation of a typical African male stylized with turban, jewellery or heraldry. Blackamoor sculptures were exotic figures of non-European raced males and were common during early modern period especially in European art culture to place in sides of doorways in order to depict symbolic servants. Blackamoor figures appeared in trays, painted wood, plaster, containers and vessels and were also seen in Venetian jewelleries like badges, pins, bracelets, earrings and cuff links.
