Cinnabar Definition
Cinnabar or red lacquer has been used as a coloring agent from ancient times. In the context of antiques the term refers to objects made of red lacquer. Cinnabar refers to the color of the objects while the carving on them is made of lacquer. The most common cinnabars are boxes. Other patterns include snuff bottles, chargers, smoke set, tea pots, umbrella stand and vases.
