Circle represent wholeness and unity in art. Closed circles were regarded as protective and appears in many talismans. They also appear in the domes of Gothic churches and mosques.   The halo in paintings of saints depict a circular halo. The term circle, in the context of art, refers also to group of artists sharing the style of work by a particular artist, or artists belonging to a particular region.
