Critic Definition
The word critic is derived from the Greek work 'kriticos' which means "able to discern'. The word 'kriticos' originated form the word 'krites'. 'Krites' means one who gives a judgment, opinion, or interpretation after evaluating something of artistic value. A critic is a professional who judges the merits or demerits of an artistic work and communicates opinions. Critical judgement originated from critical thinking and may be negative or positive. Literally, the word is popularly used and applied to those professionals whose criticisms are considered as reputed or of great quality. It is even considered as a badge of honour. Unlike artistic critics, persons who express their opinion of current issues or affairs are commonly called the 'pundits'. Again critics themselves are subjected to other competent critics.
