Custard Glass Definition
Custard glass is a coloured glass made in England in 1880. It is a creamy yellow-white coloured opaque glass with some greenish hue. Some custard glass has high amount of uranium content that gives luminous appearance and may be fluoresce. Custard glass may be opaque off-white or yellow-green opaque and density can be thick and solid. The glass began to be produced in the U.S. in 1890s. Custard glasses were found in attractive designs and were often hand painted or gilded. Collectors search for custard glass bowls, decorative pieces, vases, and tableware.
