Cut Glass Definition
Cut glass is a glass seen produced from very early days. This glass is fragile and sensitive to temperature. The glass gained popularity between the late 19th and the early 20th century, during the American ‘Brilliant’ period. Cut glasses included pattern and designs of geometric shapes; they were heavy leaded and reflected light. This made them a decor for the dining table. This glassware was found in different shapes and patterns. The decorations were made by grinding and polishing using cutting instruments or abrasive wheels. Aztec, Trellis, Panel, were some rare and expensive designs. Collectors search for cut glass bowls, candle sticks, fruit bowls, and other table ware. They often came in sets or pairs. By the late 2oth century companies began to produce fake cut glasses. A black light test helps a collector to understand if a Cut glass is authentic or not.
