DPI Definition
DPI is the abbreviation for Dots per inch (DPI), It is a term seen used in relation to printing and is used to measure the quality of a printed image. The quality of an output device is also measured using DPI. Dots per Inch are calculated using the pixel dimensions and size of the digital image. An image with sufficient DPI will appear sharp and of good quality. It will not appear fuzzy or pixilated. Therefore artists assure that the Photographic and Fine Art prints include sufficient DPI. Normally, an increase in dot per inch will result in higher resolution images. The normal resolution of printer that is commonly used with a computer (laser printer) is 600 dots per inch. DPI is also seen used in relation to computer graphics.
