Dragonware Definition
Dragonware is a term used to refer to Japanese pottery and porcelain decorated with raised designs. Dragons or serpents that curl around the pottery piece were the raised patterns that were commonly found on these moriage potteries. Moriage is a kind of slip clay that is used to decorate the pottery. These potteries were first produced during the late 19th century. These potteries were found in different color, the raised patterns of the dragon generally appeared in white. The original Nippon dragonware was decorated with complex designs of dragons.
