Omphalos Definition

Omphalos in Ancient Greek means navel or a hub or a centre. They are stones erected on the lands bordering the Mediterranean Sea, and one of such stones is the circular altar in Delphi designated as the centre of the earth. Omphalos is regarded as the holiest object and is a powerful religious symbol. In Greek mythology it is the name of the stone given to Cronus.
