Paleolithic Definition
The term ‘paleolithic’ is derived from two Greek words, palaios, meaning old; and lithos, meaning stone. It simply refers to the early phase of the Stone Age that lasted for about 2.5-3 million years. During the paleolithic period or era primitive stone tools were used. Both portable and stationary art forms were seen during this period. Portable art form was mainly in the form of figurines or decorated objects. The figurines were made in the shape of an animal or a human. They were carved using stone, antler, or bones. Clay models were also seen. The Stationary art were seen in the form of cave paintings and drawings. Cave paintings of animals were commonly seen during this era.
