Pairpoint Definition
The term ‘pairpoint’ is used to refer to the products of Pairpoint Manufacturing Company. This company was established in New Bedford, Massachusetts as early as 1880. The company initially produced only silver plated metal mounts. After some time, it merged with a glass manufacturing and soon started making glassware, lamp shades, and silver plated pieces. By the early 20th century the company gained international fame for its decorated lamp shades, those with reverse printed shades were appreciated. The ‘puffy’ shades sitting on metal bases were the most famous Pairpoint lampshades. This company was shut down in 1930. Pairpoint Crystal Inc., which is now based in Massachusetts, is an off shoot of the original company.
