Pendentive means a triangle with a curve which gives a concave shape. Pendentive is used for construction purpose and this kind of construction allows placing elliptical or circular dome over square or rectangle shaped room. This may appear as hanging but actually supports the construction especially tall and wide buildings. Pendentives acquire the shape of a triangle that appears as segments cut out from a sphere. It is these pendentives which hold the weight of the dome.
