Quezal Definition
The term Quezal refers to the glass ware made by Quezal Art Glass and Decorating Company. Quezal glass was made from 1901 to 1924 in New York and the company was started by Martin Bach, Sr., Thomas Johnson, Nicholas Bach, Lena Scholtz, and Adolph Demuth. Martin Bach Sr. and Johnson had previously worked for Tiffany & Co., big name in American art glass. The mark Quezal was trademarked in 1902, and was an alteration of the word "quetzal" which refers to a brightly colored Central American bird. The continuing hallmark of Quezal art glass is its unique expression of the Art Nouveau style.
