Salon is the official arts exhibition of painting and sculptures that was held annually by French Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture. It is also known as Paris Salon or Salon d'Apollon.  The first exhibition was held at Louvre in 1667. The Salon exhibition gained publicity and importance in the 19th century. However, in 1870, Salon had declined in importance.
