Painted Rug Definition
The term ‘painted rug’ is normally seen used to refer to old and worn rugs that are often painted by sellers to restore their design and color and hide the wear and tear from potential purchasers. This is mostly done to avoid the repiling cost. In some cases, the whole rug is painted in a new design to disguise the buyer. The handkerchief test can be used to identify antique area rugs that are painted.
