Pier is a flat surface on the pillars that extends from the shore to water. Piers are always associated with a place of relaxation, leisure or entertainment like a portico which provides for a place to have food. Piers are supported by pillars or columns. Ships or boats can use this as a bay while in anchorage. It may look either like a vertical pillar or like a wall that supports a roof or arch.
