In relation to antiques, the word 'Uhl' refers to a group of pottery manufactured by Uhl Pottery Company in Evansville, Indiana in the 19th century. German immigrants, August and Louis Uhl founded this company in 1849. In 1908, the company relocated to Huntingburg, Indiana because they thought that this place was a better source of clay in terms of quality and availability. The company operated until late 1940 and the Uhl family kept all rights to Uhl trademark. Uhl pottery has a wide range of items such as household crockery, vessels, exotic miniature collections, and utilitarian wares. "Acron" wares are populary collected Uhl.
