Funk Art Definition
Funk Art is considered as an art movement originated as a reaction against abstract expressionism. It was a regional movement in Bay area, especially San Francisco. The funk art works often had inappropriate humor and the term is used loosely for art with offensive subject matter. Jess, Ed Kienholz, Manuel Neri, Gladys Nilsson and Jim Nutt were among the famous funk artists. Funk art was popular in 1960s and 1970s.
